Some descendants of the original settlers are still living in Butler Township. An effort by Connecticut to settle the Wyoming region failed in 1762-1763 because local Indian tribes were warring among themselves. The Connecticut settlement at Mill Creek was attacked by Delawares from outside the region in October 1763. The local Indians also fled the area, and the Wyoming Valley was unoccupied for several years.
