A while back, I posted an initial review of the Grizzly T10010 Wet Grinder; you can read the review here. Well, after having used the machine for a while, I thought I would post a follow up and give some more thoughts. First, I still love this machine for sharpening and honing; it is SUPER fast and easy.

Apr 21, 2010· The only thing I noticed from the pictures is the Grizzly wheel doesn't seem to be inset (thinner) near the center like the Tormek wheel, so it may not fit... the shaft may not be long enough. FWIW, most sharpeners that do knives on the Tormek, don't grade the wheel back and forth.

The Tormek costs about 5-6 times more than the Grizzly, both have grinding wheels that turn for sharpening. I am seriously thinking to purchase the Grizzly unless someone can convince me otherwise. When switched on, the second grinder emitted a horrible high-pitched noise. It also had a chipped grinding wheel. Yikes. Grizzly refunded my money. Grizzly sells a higher-priced version, the 10-inch T10010. I examined the floor model and it appears to be much sturdier than its younger, cheaper brother. And it has a metal housing.
I have 9 micron, 1 micron and .3 micron sharpening sandpaper that I then swipe the tools across to finish sharpening. The Grizzly Wet Grinder makes it so much easier and faster to get to the final stage of hand honing, and the fact that the tool stays cool during sharpening (and the grind is washed away) the tool HOLDS the edge longer.

I have an ancient wet grinder and knew it did a great job (but it's a pain to use) and figured a modern wet sharpening system would be a good investment.
